Jordan Meeting Promotes Dialogue Among MENA Judges

24Nov

On October 1st and 2nd, more than 50 women judges from the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region gathered in Amman, Jordan to discuss barriers faced by women in the MENA region, first, in accessing and advancing through the judicial career ladder and, second, in accessing justice through the courts. The IAWJ convened this regional meeting as part of a three-year program on Strengthening Women Judges’ Capacity To Provide Judicial Leadership on Gender and Access to Justice. The program, which is being implemented through the International Legal Assistance Consortium (ILAC) and funded by the Swedish Development Agency, aims to strengthen the work and role of women judges by supporting networking at both the regional and national levels and providing training and mentoring. The meeting in Jordan builds on the prior regional meeting in Tunisia (March of 2015) and national meetings in Tunisia (October 2014) and Morocco (July 2015). The next national meeting will be held in Jordan in November. Read more
